Just beat it

Three ladies beating the husk off millets. This was taken on the way from Ghorepani to Tatopani while waiting for lunch to be served. Curiously enough, whatever your order, it will definitely take more than half an hour to arrive, regardless of the crowd.

She'll be coming round the corner when she comes

Kids watching us as we trekked past them. In nepal, I find that looking back while trekking tends to yield lots of interesting pictures.

Wider shade of pale

One of the very few good pictures I took on Poon Hill which kinda reminds me of midwest USA. Seriously, it's not worth waking up at 4am for a one hour climb up for a view was more or less the same as the one you can get below... plus it was freezing my ass off =p

Taken, believe it or not, from within the lodge's dining hall, where everyone congregated because it there was a fireplace, and the apple pie was yum. The view on Poon Hill (which we had to hike another 500m uphill to reach) was not much better, except that you can see all the other mountain ranges.

Finally, rest.

On the top of the hill, before heading to Ghorepani, which was about 500m (my guess) downhill.

When it gets higher up, things suddenly start to look like a Chinese ink painting.

What looks like a waterfall in the background is actually grass. There were some monkeys too, but unfortunately I didn't manage to get any good shots of those.

Gateway to the heavens

Day 2, road to Tadapani

Hot air

This is, what I assume, the top of a cumulus cloud, taken from our first day guest house on the Annapurna trek in Ghandruk. Since layers of clouds often have very subtle difference in colour from the surrounding clouds, curves have been tweaked in photoshop to bring out the most of this picture.

Deep thought

Whatever that's on her mind right now, it probably has nothing to do with how close she is from falling off the platform.

Heading home

After a quick rest, this woman is setting up her headpiece(?) to her basket before she continues with her journey home carrying firewood.

Free unlimited refills

What I particularly found interesting with this picture was the simplicity of the setup - just some leaves slotted in a crack to divert the flow of water - which I would have never thought of at that time. Sad to say, this newfound knowledge did not aid in my survival in the mountains, as there's tap water (diverted from nearby streams) in all the lodges we've been to.

Immerse yourself

Taken at a market in a town between Kathmandu to Pokhara which we stopped by for lunch. The kid was concentrating so hard that he didn't notice me taking the photo.

Like father, like son

I wanted to take a less-cliched picture of the all-seeing-eyes in Boudhanath, and I noticed that there's a corner with a smaller stupa with the same pair of eyes. I had to wait till wind blew and lifted up the flags that obscured the smaller pair of eyes because prayer flags were literally hung up everywhere.

A bit nutty...

A random lady in Durbar Square who according to our guide, was out of her mind. She came along and started singing and talking to passers by who paid her no attention.

Metalworks

Took this picture while walking around the streets of Thamel. I still have no idea what the guys are doing, though it looks like some kind of metalworks shop
